Poorly sorted soil
WebNational Center for Biotechnology Information Sorting describes the distribution of grain size of sediments, either in unconsolidated deposits or in sedimentary rocks. This should not be confused with crystallite size, which refers to the individual size of a crystal in a solid. Crystallite is the building block of a grain. Very poorly sorted indicates that the sediment sizes are mixed (large variance); whereas well sorted indicates that the sediment sizes are similar (low variance).

Increases in grain size allow for more perturbations. As a result, a poorly sorted, coarse grained till will be more micromorphologically inhomogeneous than a finer-grained till. WebSorting. Sorting is the variability in grain size in a clastic sedimentary rock. This parameter measures how well a sediment has been ‘sorted’ by the process that transported it. A sediment can be: – very well sorted: nearly all grains have the same size. – well sorted: most grains fall in a single grain size class with few outliers.
WebJan 1, 2015 · The kurtosis (or “peakedness”) has also been widely used by investigators as a sediment sorting parameter, especially between 1960 and 1980. One of the most frequently used sorting parameters is the “inclusive graphic standard deviation” proposed by Folk and Ward ( 1957 ), in which the 68 % and 90 % of the median value have been ...
