WebApr 20, 2024 · I was recently gifted a small modeller's lathe by a friend. Turns out it's a (potentially rare) Portass 2 1/8in lathe built in the 1920's. As such, the main casting, except for the bearing surfaces, is anything but uniform. Not a straight line anywhere. I think I did it justice, although the loft is a little odd, it's pretty close.
WebApr 15, 2024 · Sheddiy. Yes its a portass 3 5/8 lathe or better known as the s model. Works well and just needs a good clean and oil and in summer a nice coat of blue hammerite paint. Made a new flat belt for the 3 pulley system from 1 inch wide leather and shaved the ends to half thickness so they fitted together and sewn up. http://www.lathes.co.uk/portass-4-inch/

Way overpriced for the lathe alone but a small writing case full of bits came with it, some worn out tat, some curiosities (Unique pressed tin dial gauge anyone), some useful and two full boxes of 1/4 x 2 1/2 tool steel one stellite, one a good brand.
